The former CN Terminal Centre in Moncton was once a major architectural landmark for the city; known as “The Glass House”, it was considered extremely modern for its time before being damaged by a fire in 1978.
When Crombie REIT decided it was time to bring “The Glass House” back to its former glory, they sought a cutting-edge design that would see the building restored to its status as a major architectural icon for the downtown area, while using modern sustainable design principles.
The result is a truly awe-inspiring and highly sustainable state-of-the-art office building. The new and improved Glass House features a new energy plant in the basement with heating and electrical systems and an energy efficient building envelope composed of high efficiency glazing, and new boilers powered by natural gas complemented with an exterior Solar Wall system that collects outside air heated by the sun, which is then introduced through the ventilation system to minimize heating costs. The stunning exterior features a new anodized aluminum curtain wall system that incorporates tinted energy efficient glazing units.
